White Collar: Neal And Peters Bromance

A while back I wrote about my top 5 fictional BFF's and after binge watching White Collar I realise I left Neal Caffrey and Peter Burke off of the list, a list that they should probably be at the top of.

*Spoilers for season five below*

For those of you who haven't watched White Collar before I'll just give you a brief summary, Peter (left) is a FBI agent who has caught Neal (right) who is a thief/ forger twice. They come to an arrangement where Neal works for the FBI as a criminal informant whilst wearing an anklet and Peter is his handler. Hilarity ensues. The show is going to begin its sixth and final season in November and I figured it was the perfect time to reflect on Neal and Peter's relationship and how it has evolved over the course of the past five years.

The friendship is one that really shouldn't have worked, they were adversaries. Peter had been hunting Neal for numerous years until he finally caught him. And then he caught him again. However, there doesn't seem to be much friction between them and it would be easy for Peter to constantly see Neal as a criminal but he sees him as a friend (although there is a lingering distrust there). Peter has put his life and job in jeopardy for Neal and fought for him even though he knows that Neal has committed crimes under his watch. Peter realises that it isn't greed that drives Neal or his actions, he ultimately has a good heart and does things for the right reasons. The affection is reciprocated as Neal has given up treasure for him (pretty much the equivalent of Peter's career), literally taken a bullet for him and in season five he put's himself at the mercy of Curtis Hagen just to free Peter. Also, I can't have been the only one who gasped and said "aww" when Neal said Peter had been like a father to him right?

At the end of season five Peter has turned down the job he was offered in Washington as he doesn't want to leave Neal after he was wronged by the head of the FBI. We see Neal wanting to be free and doing whatever he can to get him freedom even if it isn't strictly legit but before he can he ends up getting kidnapped by an unknown assailant. Season six will pick up with Peter attempting to track down Neal and I hope that he has figured he's been kidnapped rather than running as it will demolish the level of trust thats built up between them over the years. Heres hoping Mozzie comes forward to set Peter straight!

So, I declare the Peter and Neal bromance one of my favourite fictional friendships, lets hope that they manage to keep that going during the last six episodes!
