*Spoilers from season 5 of Suits*
I'll start by saying that I will not be using this post to insult Suits, I am an avid watcher of it but the second half of season 5 had me wondering why. The show follows the deeds of savvy fake attorney Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) and Harvery Spector (Gabriel Macht), the man that hired him knowing he's a fraud. These are our lead characters, the ones that we are supposed to support and root for but right off the bat they are doing something both unethical and illegal. Somehow the show managed to make me pretty much forget that for 4 seasons and I stuck with them through every antagonist they encountered but I can't ignore the fact that they are in the wrong any longer.
If you're up to date on Suits then you'll know that the fifth outing of the show dealt with Mike being indicted for fraud by district attorney Anita Gibbs (Leslie Hope). Gibbs is opposing our lead characters yet she is completely in the right. The show tried to make her unlikeable by showing her using underhand tactics to try and outwit the people at Pearson Spector Litt but we've seen all the main characters do worse. She even tries to go after the name partners which again she has every right to do so as they protected and aided him. It really did make me open my eyes to the show I've been watching so loyally the past few years, these are bad characters so why do I watch the show and root for them?
The main attraction to Suits is the relationship between Mike and Harvey, at times they disagree but at the end of the day they are always there to support one another. And make references to films. The amount of times this season alone they could've thrown each other under the bus to save themselves but instead they were self-sacrificing which is quite remarkable. To be honest I don't think I'd risk going to jail for a friend, I'd be good at disposing of their bodies if they angered me. The bromance is strong with these two but I don't think that's the reason I continue watching the show, watching Anita Gibbs going after him this season made me think I watch is because I support Mike's fraud.
I don't think anyone can say that Mike is incapable of being a lawyer, he's probably handled more cases than his peers at Pearson Spector Litt and more often than not he gets the result he desires. Unfortunately it's not the work that makes you a lawyer it's schooling and a test and Mike didn't graduate law school or pass the bar. I'm not going to lie, I've been watching this show for years and I have no idea what the bar is and why it matters. I think the fact that he isn't fully qualified makes him infinitely more relatable, there's so many people out there that are capable of doing something in their personal or professional lives but never get a chance to. For example, you could be an exceptionally talented musician but not have the financial backing to spend all your time focusing on it, whether it's bills you have to pay or school uniforms for the kids. In my opinion Mike is in the same situation as many others but he's decided to do what he wants anyway which we all wish we had the balls to do.

I may relate to him but Mike has comitted a criminal act and every case he has ever handled may end up falling apart so it is just that he is imprisoned at the end of season 5. It shows that sometimes the justice system does get it right and I understand why it had to happen, I don't feel slighted or hate Anita Gibbs for coming at him so hard as other fans seem to. Him being imprisoned is what should have happened and to be honest Pearson Spector Litt should've gone down as well. This is me thinking like a rational person, but I would never turn back the clock and stop Mike from doing it and nor do I think that would be his choice either. He took a chance and lived his dream and now there are consequences as there are with anything you do but that shouldn't stop you from trying to get what you want out of life.
So I guess that's why I like Suits, it gets you to dare to live your life the way you want it. You don't accept people rejecting you because you're not from the right socio-economical background or not deemed qualified enough or whatever excuse is given to hold you down. Just go for it and hope that you aren't comitting fraud while doing it because fraudsters seem to get more time in prison than murderers. Also, if you what you really want to do is rape, murder or comit a violent crime then don't do it, that dream will never be ok.
Anyway, enough about murder. Live Long and Blog!
